The bathtub might be one of the greatest inventions in our homes. It’s a place to where kids can get clean while they play and where moms can take a nice, relaxing bubble bath after a tough day.
While you might not want to think about it while your soaking, bathtubs can also be home to some nasty stuff including mold, bacteria, soap scum, and white, crusty mineral deposits. And what about all that dirt and grime that washes off our bodies? That’s in there too. The first step to clean, bathtub bliss is determining what type of tub you have. Most bathtubs are enameled metal, porcelain, and acrylic. Typical modern tubs are acrylic, or plastic. If your tub doesn’t look plastic, then it’s likely one of the other two. You’ll know that your tub is enameled metal if a magnet sticks to it. If it’s neither of the two, then it’s porcelain. (We need to know this because enamel is fragile and should not be treated with bleach.)
